Why we do it

We believe that fitness helps to develop mental and physical toughness, and leads to a successful and healthy life. Mental toughness, often referred to as ‘Grit’, is widely recognised as a key element to sport and business success. Grit can be broken down into four principles; confidence, commitment, control and challenge.

Our classes are designed to develop your physical and mental toughness and to help you find your‘Grit’.

Our Team

We are a team of highly qualified and experienced coaches. We’ve drawn on our own ‘Grit’ experiences to develop and lead our classes.

Bruce | Coach & Founder

Bruce comes from a professional football background having played for the French youth teams; Olympique Lyonnais & Grenoble Foot 38.

The intense physical and mental demands of professional football shaped Bruce’s values of discipline and commitment and these you will experience in the High Achievers Lab classes he runs.

Bruce holds a Level 3 Personal Training qualification. Holding an MSc from Loughborough University he has worked within the fitness and Sport For Development industry for over eight years.

He established High Achievers Lab, Brixton’s only social enterprise fitness group, in February 2021. Through High Achievers Lab Bruce continues to champion the power of sport to help young people achieve their life goals.

 

Phil | Coach & Founder

Phil has been the Head Trainer of Brixton’s Street Gym for the last five years and holds a Level 3 Personal Training qualification. Phil’s energy, positive attitude, reliability and core belief has earned him the respect and appreciation of his peers, customers and local young people.

Phil grew up in Brixton at a time when it was known for gang affiliations. Thanks to youth programs and fitness foundations such as The Block Workout he found a safe place to explore his potential and develop his mental and physical toughness, steering him away from joining gangs.

Phil believes that fitness is more than just working out, it is a lifestyle. When you join one of his classes you too will begin to believe.

We know, from the members we train, that every single person has their own personal goals, desire and objectives but they also face their own limitations, barriers and challenges.

We have designed our classes around mental toughness, which helps each member achieve their goals by removing their own limitations. What you learn at High Achievers Lab is more than achieving your fitness goals, they are life skills you will use every day.

BRIXTON’S ONLY SOCIAL ENTERPRISE FITNESS GROUP

Young people in Brixton face many barriers that prevent them achieving their full potential. We feel that it’s important to engage and equip local young people with personal resilience (mental toughness) so that they can thrive in environments that don’t naturally let them express their full potential.

As the only social enterprise fitness group in Brixton we offer free fitness classes to young local people so that they can develop their mental toughness and be successful in life.
